About the Presenter:
Yonca Aydýn Akova, M.D. has completed her medical training [1983] and ophthalmology training [1990] at the Istanbul University, Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey. She worked as Clinical Research Assistant in Ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Cornea Service, London, U.K. [November 1988-October 1989], as a Research Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University, Wilmer Eye Institute, Cornea and External Diseases Department, Baltimore, MD [January 1992-June 1992], and Clinical and Research Fellow, Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Ocular Immunology Service, Boston, MA [July 1992-June 1993]. She has received Associate Professorship Certificate in 1994. Dr. Akova started to work as a Professor of Ophthalmology at the Baskent University, School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Ankara, Turkey in 2000. Since 2002 she is the Chairperson of the Ophthalmology Department of the same faculty. Her primary areas of interest are corneal transplantation, anterior segment related ocular immunology, uveitis, Behcet’s disease, cataract and anterior segment surgery.
