About the Presenter:
Dr. Leroy G. Meshel is an American Academy of Ophthalmology board certified ophthalmologist who specialized in cornea pathology and contact lens technology. Dr Meshel has been awarded the "Distinguished Service Honor Award" by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the "Faculty Distinguished Honor Award" by the Joint Commission of Allied Personnel in Ophthalmology. He has lectured extensively throughout the world and is the author of numerous academic papers and texts. He has been an editor of "Contact Lens Spectrum" and "CLAOFILE".
He has been a pioneer in the development and production of prosthetic and cosmetic contact lenses through his work as the founder and director of Narcissus Eye Research Foundation and as medical director with Wesley Jessen’s Special Eyes Foundation.
His specially designed lenses have been used by NASA (National Space and Aeronautics Administration) on nine space shuttle/space lab missions in NASA’s investigation of vestibular ocular function and its role in the causation of space sickness.
A graduate of the University of Vermont Medical School, he completed his ophthalmology training at Montefoire Hospital and Albert Einstein Medical Center, New York and fellowship at the Univ of California Medical Center, San Francisco.
Recently, Dr. Meshel’s interest in specialized contact lenses has involved work with wave front guided production of contact lenses and spectacles.
